One spring I was very busy helping to design and install a school garden and seven organic food  gardens for friends while growing much of the food her own family was eating. One of those dear friends asked the obvious question, “Don’t you think you’ve started a business?” Thus the notion of creating Peas & Harmony began to sprout. The addage, “It takes a village” could not be more true:  my  experiences and education combined with the local wisdom of farmers, gardeners and sustainability leaders has given me the opportunity to share the most successful techniques that I have found for responsibly growing our food.

Before kids and organic farming, I was a registered nurse specializing in pediatric cancer research. I had always been interested in organic food systems, believing that we truly are what we eat and what we eat needs to be grown and harvested with care. I have grown my  family’s food and helped others in their pursuit of healthful eating in Northern California for 25 years. I am passionate about growing and cooking food and always on the hunt for new treasures within our foodshed.

I also home school our children.   As an informal science educator for family, friends and community, I want to bring gardening to life for children of all ages through first-hand learning.  Some of the kids favorite activities around the garden are  harvesting, starting seedlings, and raising our ever expanding flock of chickens!

Peas and Harmony has designed an executed school gardens for various learning disciplines, such Waldorf and Montessori. I design each garden for a home or school with the care and attention that I would take for my own gardens, probably more! I continue to be passionate about learning and seeking the best ideas for our community, and  have studied  permaculture design, vermicomposting, GROW BIOINTENSIVE, Soil Foodweb, fruit forests, and garden design.

While the cycle from seed harvest is rewarding, there is so much more to appreciate about our local foodshed when we are in sync with the seasons, celebrating with our neighbors and sharing the abundance.

I hope that our services and workshops might help awaken your “inner farmer.”
